Swiss Historic Hotels and Their Famous Guests

Throughout the long history of Swiss Historic Hotels, many famous personalities have stayed in the respective hotels. Travelers like Johann Wolfgang Goethe or emperors like Napoleon Bonaparte were guests in these venerable houses even in the early days. In more recent times, various celebrities from politics, science, and show business have come and gone in the Swiss Historic Hotels. Experience past eras of famous authors, the splendor of royals, and the glamour of Hollywood.

Authors and Imperial Highnesses – Berghotel Schatzalp Davos

The Hotel Schatzalp in Davos gained fame through the 1924 novel "The Magic Mountain" by Thomas Mann, who was inspired by the unique hotel and its location during a spa stay for his wife in Davos. Kaiser Wilhelm II and the Sherlock Holmes author Arthur Conan Doyle were among the regular guests. The hotel also served as a backdrop for various Hollywood film productions and is currently the secret star of the SRF series "Davos 1917".

Royal Elegance – Splendide Royal Lugano

Among the former guests are great politicians like François Mitterrand or George Bush Senior, show stars like Tina Turner and Sophia Loren, and sports stars like Björn Borg and Alain Prost. Numerous members of major royal families have also stayed here over the hotel's more than 135-year history. In their honor, the hotel name was given the addition "Royal" in 1956.

Hollywood – Chesa Grischuna Klosters

Klosters is known worldwide as a holiday resort, not least thanks to its illustrious guests from the British royal family. What is almost forgotten is that the American high society from film, music, theater, and literature frequented here as early as the 1950s. Thus, the village earned the nickname "Hollywood on the Rocks". The Chesa Grischuna was the center of the celebrities. Gene Kelly, Greta Garbo, Gregory Peck, and many other film stars were regular guests at the hotel and its legendary bar.

Badrutt's Palace Hotel St. Moritz

The luxurious house has been equally appreciated by celebrities and royal families since its opening in 1896, with loyal guests such as Alfred Hitchcock. Other personalities from the film industry, art scene, and politics also stayed here, including Marlene Dietrich, Winston Churchill, and Charlie Chaplin.

Chasa de Capol Sta. Maria

"Here you experience magic without having magic mushrooms," noted the LSD discoverer Albert Hofmann in the guestbook.

La Couronne Solothurn

The second oldest hotel in Switzerland has delighted numerous prominent guests such as Napoleon, Baron von Rothschild, Henry Kissinger, Lilo Pulver, and Sophia Loren.

Romantik Hotel Wilden Mann Luzern

Prominent guests like Sophia Loren, Herbert von Karajan, or Udo Jürgens have visited the house.
