In the middle of the UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch stands the historic FLÜHLI Hotel Kurhaus from 1899 with its 29 rooms. In 2020-2021, the hotel was extensively renovated, refurbished, and restored, and since its reopening in December 2021, it shines in new splendor.

The hotel has gained many amenities through the renovation. Certain elements of modernity – such as televisions in the rooms – were deliberately not included to preserve the historical character of the house. The publicly accessible restaurant, with its original guest room, pampers its guests with authentic specialties from Swiss cuisine. In summer, the garden terrace with its chestnut trees and the veranda is the ideal place to linger and enjoy.

The historic Kursaal offers space for our varied cultural & event program. It is also where hotel guests are pampered with culinary delights for breakfast daily. Not to forget our seminar room for up to 50 people. With its exposed ceiling beams and generous room size, it offers a very special ambiance for creative seminars.

History

The Waldemmental with its village Flühli was historically known for two things - its sulfur springs and "Flühli Glass". The Enzmann family, immigrants from southern Germany, were active in the glass industry. Their son Leo was a pioneer of his time with a special foresight and business sense. He was also the first "Kurhaus host". But let's start from the beginning.

In 1782, the inn Zur Kreuzbuche was "newly" opened in the village square of Flühli. The inn, which originally stood on the village hill of Flühli, had to make way for the construction of the church. Leo Enzmann acquired the inn Zur Kreuzbuche in 1858. The discovery of the sulfur springs triggered a veritable tourism boom. While the Kreuzbuche hosted just five guests in the summer of 1878, by the summer of 1885, there were already 150. Thus, the inn Zur Kreuzbuche was converted into a spa hotel. Even its own sulfur spring was drawn from the rear valley floor into the hotel's cellar. This allowed hotel guests to enjoy their sulfur baths directly in the hotel. Even today, you can see in the cellar of the FLÜHLI Hotel Kurhaus where the old bathing cabins were once located. At the turn of the century, Leo Enzmann handed over the business to his son, who was no less talented and inherited his father's business acumen. He expanded the Kurhaus and enjoyed high visitor numbers for many decades. Even prominent names can be found in the guest books, such as Vladimir Ilyich Lenin. Officially, Lenin spent the summer of 1915 with his wife in Sörenberg, where she was undergoing treatment. However, Lenin himself was often found at the Kurhaus in Flühli, where his secretary and lover were accommodated. The Enzmann family ran the Kurhaus for a total of three generations.

Rooms & Gastronomy

Rooms

Our 29 rooms are spread over three floors. Each one represents an era… on the 1st floor, our Nostalgia Rooms with wood paneling from the early days. On the 2nd floor, the Kurhaus Rooms, with floral wallpaper, a nod to the Belle Epoque, and on the 3rd floor, our Deluxe Rooms "the Modern" with clean lines. Televisions were deliberately omitted in the furnishings. Wi-Fi is available to hotel guests free of charge throughout their stay in the hotel.

Gastronomy

We cook seasonally, regionally, fresh. The focus is on enjoyment, tradition, and the occasional surprise. Yes, it should be cheerful: The water should run in your mouth, and the food should truly bring joy.

Region

Region

In the middle of the UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch, a true paradise of nature and tranquility awaits you. But there is also plenty on offer for the adventurous. Cave explorations, Kneipp therapy, hiking & biking, and even thrilling valley descents in winter on the ski slopes.
