The Garden Dreams of the Swiss Historic Hotels

Not only the venerable and listed hotel buildings and their architectural historical significance fascinate visitors of the Swiss Historic Hotels. The large hotel parks and charming gardens belonging to the estates equally enchant guests. Many of the Swiss Historic Hotels, whether castles, Belle Époque hotels, villas, or albergos, are surrounded by a large park or garden.

Mediterranean Ambiance in the Sun Lounge of Switzerland

The romantic garden of the Villa Carona in Carona/Lugano (TI) is a small Mediterranean paradise. The Ticino warmth invites guests to enjoy breakfast in the garden and soak up the sun on the deck chairs. The highlight of the botanical year at Villa Carona is when the wisteria blooms in spring. There is hardly a more cozy spot than on the terrace under the pergola entwined with gnarled branches when the scent of blossoms robs romantically inclined people of their senses.

Castles with Parks

The extensive English park surrounding the Schloss Wartegg on the Rorschacherberg (SG) is located amidst beautiful nature, close to Lake Constance. This green oasis in Eastern Switzerland, where Empress Zita once stayed, was created by master hands in 1860 and today delights those seeking relaxation and lovers of nature and garden art equally as a national garden monument. On an area of around 130,000 square meters, guests can linger in the rose garden or under linden, plane, and chestnut trees and discover shady watercourses and cozy clearings. The castle garden (2,500 square meters) is also embedded in the park, where rare vegetables, herbs, berries, and flowers are cultivated.

The beautiful Schloss Schadau in Thun (BE) is located at a unique location on the shore of Lake Thun. The Schadaupark is a local recreation area and was designed as an English garden. Here by the lake at the Aare, visitors enjoy the panorama with Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. The park contains some ancient trees that can be discovered on a tree trail.

Hotels Surrounded by Nature Parks

Not a garden or a park, but an entire nature park surrounds the Grandhotel Giessbach in Brienz (BE), which towers high above Lake Brienz. The centerpiece of this environment is the roaring and rushing Giessbach waterfall, which gave the hotel its name. On the hotel's viewing terrace and in the garden, a collection of 39 hydrangea, 16 astilbe, and 30 dahlia varieties can be found. The vegetable garden and the historic garden houses from 1897 have been restored. Today, guests are supplied with vegetables, herbs, and honey from the hotel park.

The Hotel Schatzalp high above Davos (GR), in a sunny, south-facing location, is situated in the largest hotel park in Switzerland, covering a total area of 470,000 square meters. The park is the local recreation area of the highest city in Europe. The historic hotel can be reached in just four minutes from the center of Davos Platz with the Schatzalpbahn. The botanical alpine garden "Alpinum" houses around 5,000 different plant species and varieties from all the mountains of the world.

Farm Garden

A baroque flower garden connects the three historic Emmental buildings that belong to the hotel complex of the Romantik Hotels Bären in Dürrenroth (BE). The main garden area is divided into four mirror-symmetrical flower beds by a cross-path, framed with short-cut boxwood. Here, annual and perennial plants bloom, characteristic of farm gardens. The inclusion of water with the fountain at the intersection of the cross-path and the stream feeding the pond makes the garden a place of inspiration.

Find your personal green oasis of peace and relaxation and immerse yourself in the world of flowers and plants.
