Delightful experiences and traditions

The historic buildings of Swiss Historic Hotels are as diverse as the culinary delights offered in the hotels and their surroundings. We cordially invite you to join us on a journey through Switzerland and to some of our member hotels to discover the culinary delights and diverse traditions of the different regions. From wine from the hotel's own vineyard to an edible landscape to UNESCO World Heritage sites – the variety of experiences for the palate and the eye is impressive.

The culinary heritage of the Alps

The former Capuchin monastery in Stans focuses on the culinary heritage of the Alps. The Culinarium Alpinum opened in 2020 after undergoing gentle renovation. In the former refectory, now a restaurant, particular emphasis is placed on authentic regional products, which are complemented by produce from the Alpine region. Highlights include the Alpsbrinz cellar, the monastery shop with regional products and the ‘edible landscape’. Here, visitors can discover 250 old and new varieties of fruit and berries: snacking is encouraged!

Wine from the own vineyard

The BLUME. Hotel in Baden has a long tradition of winegrowing. Even the earlier hosts of the hotelier dynasty spoiled their guests with wine from their own vineyards. Today, the excellent ‘Ammonit’ comes from Wettingen, where brothers Silvio and Patrik Erne cultivate three plots of vineyards with Pinot Noir and Rivaner grapes on first-class limestone soil. This wine is best enjoyed with a delicious meal in the hotel's unique atrium.

Delicious world heritage

Built in 1829 as a winegrower's house, the Hôtel Masson is one of the oldest guesthouses in Montreux. The wonderful hotel garden offers a magnificent view of Lake Geneva and the impressive mountain panorama. The hotel's own restaurant places particular emphasis on authentic cuisine. The Lavaux vineyard terraces, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007, are located in the immediate vicinity. This unique landscape comprises around 10,000 terraces criss-crossed by paths and encompassing several picturesque wine-growing villages. The region is particularly worth a visit in autumn, when the landscape is ablaze with golden colours.

A toast to the chestnut

The lower Val Bregaglia is home to one of the largest well-maintained chestnut forests in Europe. The ‘Festival della Castagna’ takes place there for three weeks in October. Stay at the Hotel Palazzo Salis and experience the tradition of chestnut harvesting with guided tours, tastings and various festivals.

Grisons dishes

In the historic Veltliner tavern at the Hotel Stern in Chur, guests can enjoy excellent Graubünden dishes such as capuns, maluns and pizokels all year round. In autumn, these culinary delights are complemented by excellent game dishes. The restaurant's cuisine was once again awarded 13 GaultMillau points.

Vineyards of Vully

Château Salavaux lies at the heart of the Three Lakes Region, nestled among the picturesque vineyards of Vully. The variety of exquisite wines from the region harmonises perfectly with the restaurant's gastronomic concept, which is based entirely on local and seasonal products.
